White Noise – Cool iPhone app – Review

2009 March 11

I got my iPhone last Fall after two years of lust and envy I just couldn’t take it any more.  I just don’t know what I’d do without it.  This is the first of a series of iPhone application reviews.

white-noiseIt usually takes me between one and two hours to fall asleep at night, I just toss and turn, can’t get comfortable I reckon.  I found this new app called White Noise from TM Soft.  It’s simply a white noise generator with noise selector, volume, balance and pitch control,  and shut off/fade out timer.

I started setting the timer for one hour and the next morning, I didn’t remember the thing shutting off.  I’m now setting it for 30 minutes and the next morning – I don’t remember it shutting off.  This is so neat.

There is a selection of 40 sounds to chose from including beach, city, crickets, frogs, water, several variations on rain and thunder storms, wind, sprinkler, cars, clock, people, ocean, purring cat, chimes, train going down the rails, and more.  My favorites are the amazon and the boat, which creaks as it rocks back and forth with water lapping up against the hull.  I am out like a light.

Update 4/7/09 – At the time of this original article, White Noise was free.  The full version is now 99 cents and there is a Lite version for free.
